What are braces?
Braces are orthodontic appliances that Dr. Yusupov bonds to the surfaces of your teeth. They use a combination of brackets, wires, and rubber bands (O-rings) to place mild pressure on your jaw and periodontal ligament (a band of tissue that anchors your teeth). Over time, the pressure changes the position of your teeth and jaw, improving their alignment and symmetry.
What are the types of braces?
At Amazing Smiles Orthodontics, Dr. Yusupov and the team offer several types of braces, including:
Metal braces
Metal braces are bonded to the front of your teeth. They have metal brackets, a metal archwire, and a series of rubber bands. Dr. Yusupov adjusts the archwire periodically during treatment, moving your teeth into the desired position.
Clear (ceramic) braces
Clear braces are similar to metal braces, the difference is that they have ceramic brackets and a white frosted archwire. These appliances blend in with your teeth, so your braces aren’t as noticeable.
BRIUS™ lingual braces
BRIUS lingual braces are bonded to the back of your teeth, so they aren’t visible to others. Lingual braces are effective but can be difficult to clean, so Dr. Yusupov usually prescribes them to adults.
Self-ligating braces
Self-ligating braces look similar to metal braces. The difference is that these braces use a special mechanism to hold your archwire in place instead of rubber bands (O-rings). These braces still require periodic adjustments, but they cause less soreness than traditional metal braces.

Treatment with braces typically takes 12–18 months*, but it may take longer, depending on the severity of your alignment problems.
During treatment, visit Amazing Smiles Orthodontics every 8-10 weeks for regular adjustments. At each visit, Dr. Yusupov completes an oral exam to ensure you maintain good oral hygiene. He also tightens your braces and provides instruction.
