What is it? Is it even necessary since most children spend the first seventeen to eighteen years of their life growing, losing, and replacing their teeth?

Pediatric orthodontics is the field that specifically focuses on the oral and dental health of children from birth to adolescence. The purpose of this field is that make sure that a child’s teeth are coming in, and that there is proper alignment and no malocclusions.

But is it necessary? While most children are treated by a standard dentist, it is sometimes necessary for a pediatric orthodontist to examine the teeth of a child patient to monitor the progression of the child’s oral health.

In the event of dental difficulties that a standard dentist cannot handle, such as root canals on adult teeth that have not full formed, a pediatric orthodontist is fully trained and equipped to handle the responsibilities inherent in the task.

Pediatric Orthodontics - Amazing Smiles Orthodontics

Pediatric orthodontics is more than just dealing with straightening teeth. Just because a kid has a great smile, that doesn’t mean that their oral health doesn’t need to be looked at; orthodontists look beyond the appearance, examining the movement of the teeth as well as their placement.

It’s also important to make sure that your child is seen by a pediatric orthodontist before the age of seven (7) years old. This is known as interceptive treatment or aka Phase 1. Most children have the first molars coming in by that age and so it is important to have them assessed before those larger chompers begin crowding the teeth that had come in earlier. This is where we try to intercept bigger problems from occurring later on.

Some of the problems that may warrant early orthodontic treatment are:

• Underbites, where lower teeth are ahead of the upper teeth

• Thumb sucking habits

• Protruding front teeth

• Severely deep bites

• Sever space deficiency

Addressing some of these problems early on simplifies the second stage (phase 2) of treatment. It also helps in avoiding extractions of adult teeth as space was adequately created for proper teeth eruption.

If you don’t already have an orthodontist that specializes in pediatric patients, Amazing Smiles is happy to provide a complimentary visit. Consider all of this information, and you’ll be smiling pretty for a long time to come.

Orthodontist vs. Dentist: Invisalign Selection Guide

Importance of Orthodontic Expertise in Invisalign Treatment

As Invisalign— otherwise known as “the clear braces” or “invisible braces”— continues to gain enormous popularity, many more medical professionals across Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island are becoming Invisalign providers.

AN INSIGHT INTO INVISALIGN PROVIDER LEVELS AND A DISCOURSE ON ORTHODONTIST VS. DENTIST

As Invisalign— otherwise known as “the clear braces” or “invisible braces”— continues to gain enormous popularity, many more medical professionals across Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island are becoming Invisalign providers. While this may work out for some patients, others have run into problems. As an orthodontist who specializes in Invisalign, I have often been called in to “fix” some of those problems— which, truth be told, is what inspired this blog post today.

Invisalign is a system for straightening teeth, which is the specialty of an orthodontist. In fact, orthodontics is a specialization within the field of dentistry that requires three additional years of training and certification. Orthodontic treatment involves correcting malocclusion, which is the misalignment of a bite, incorrect spacing between teeth or crooked teeth. A good orthodontist has a depth of knowledge and experience to draw from when working with each individual and can customize treatment accordingly. A general dentist does not have the same specialized training and will refer patients to an orthodontist for such services.

While Invisalign is a remarkably easy way to straighten teeth, it is not a ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution. There’s an expertise, knowledge base and finesse that’s necessary when aligning teeth because everyone’s biology is different. Progress has to be monitored and adjustments made as necessary. Although professionals may take Invisalign training for accreditation, some dentists simply do not have the knowledge base or expertise when treatment is not progressing as anticipated; orthodontists, on the other hand, do. That’s exactly why dentist send their Invisalign patients to me for corrections well into their treatment plan. And that’s exactly why I would recommend that patients who are seeking Invisalign treatment start off with an orthodontist right from the start. You will be working with a professional who can see you through almost any complication that arises while aligning your teeth.

SELECTING INVISALIGN PROVIDER LEVELS:

Another thing to consider when selecting an Invisalign practitioner ishis/her level of experience with Invisalign.

There are four levels of provider status:

Preferred Invisalign Provider Levels treat at least 10 patients per year.

Premier Invisalign Provider Levels have treated at least 50 patients total, and 25 patients every six months.

Premier Elite Invisalign Provider Levels have treated at least 300 patients total, and 50 patients every six months.

But even if an office has the highest Invisalign designation, you should still investigate further. An inexperienced dentist who works at the same office as an Elite Premier Provider may appear to be at the same level of that provider. Ask questions, be informed, and don’t make assumptions.

As a final point, quantity and experience is important, but you should also consider outcomes. Do your homework. Check out a provider’s reviews online. Find out if he/she has had problems in the past with Invisalign patients, or if he/she has a five-star satisfaction record. A little due diligence now can pay off in the long-run with less stress and a Hollywood smile.

If you’re considering Invisalign but want to learn more, schedule your initial consultation at our office. We have locations in Mill Basin, Brooklyn; Forest Hills, Queens; and Cedarhurst, Long Island.

Our goal is to help create even more beautiful smiles all over New York. Don’t let financial fears prevent you from taking your first step towards recovery. Our offices is always standing by, ready to help you assess your insurance coverage situation. You may also qualify for one of our scholarship programs if your policy only provides partial coverage. We can begin by verifying your insurance information, or you can talk to one of our admissions specialists today.

ORTHODONTIST VS. DENTIST

What is the difference between an orthodontist and a dentist?

An orthodontist and a dentist both help you to keep your mouth and teeth healthy, but they improve your oral health in different ways. While a dentist deals with your general tooth and gum health, an orthodontist is a specialty field within dentistry, which focuses on correcting structural issues with your bite and teeth. You may visit your dentist for a routine exam and cleaning and find that you need to also visit an orthodontist because your dentist believes you might have a structural problem, such as an overbite.

WHAT SERVICES DOES A DENTIST PROVIDE?

A short visit to the dentist can provide the you with any of the below services:

  • Regular dental cleanings and exams
  • Mouth cancer screenings
  • Dental X-rays
  • Tooth whitening and other cosmetic dentistry
  • Tooth replacements/crowns
  • Denture care
  • Tooth fillings

WHAT SERVICES DOES AN ORTHODONTIST PROVIDE?

An orthodontist specializes in the following treatments and services that often require multiple visits and long-term treatment plans:

WHEN SHOULD I SEE AN ORTHODONTIST INSTEAD OF A DENTIST?

Depending on your needs, you may benefit from seeing an orthodontist instead of a dentist. Visit one of our experienced orthodontists at Amazing Smiles Orthodontics if your dentist recommends you to a specialist or if you experience any of the following issues:

WHEN SHOULD I TAKE MY CHILD TO SEE AN ORTHODONTIST?

If you notice any of the above-mentioned symptoms of an orthodontic problem in your child, it’s important to take them to your nearest orthodontist for an evaluation. Additionally, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children see an orthodontist for their first visit at the age of 7. This is important because we can provide interventional orthodontic treatments, such as two phase treatment, to avoid future structural issues or to lessen the severity of future dental problems.

To learn more about what an orthodontist can treat, speak with one of our providers at Amazing Smiles. For over thirty years, our practice has provided the highest quality of affordable dental care to patients in Forest Hills, Brooklyn, Long Island, and the surrounding areas. FOREST HILLS, N.Y., June 24, 2020 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ — FOREST HILLS, N.Y., June 24, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — The term “business as usual” changed in 2020 and the way business is done may forever be changed by the Coronavirus pandemic. As there are so many uncertainties with the direction of the country, some businesses had to completely shut down or were forced to be creative on how they operate.

Amazing Smiles Orthodontics that operates three Orthodontic locations in the Queens, New York area had to close down, with the exception of emergency situations. This created a very hard situation for patients that had braces and Invisalign treatments, they had scheduled routines and times to come in for monitoring, adjustments and maintenance for their treatments to stay on track.

Dr. Yusupov and his experienced staff quickly changed direction and looked to technology to continue helping their patients. Leveraging platforms like Zoom and Facetime, patients were able to still have their consultation and talk directly to Dr. Yusupov.

Orthodontists in Queens Now Open Up

Now New York is slowly opening back up and this includes Orthodontic Practices, Amazing Smiles Orthodontics is very concerned about their patients’ health and will continue to offer online consultations for higher risk patients and those that have concerns about their safety. Dr. Yusupov has also implemented extended safety measures, only allowing one patient in the practice at a time, family members have to stay in their vehicle and intake forms have been digitized online, to be completed in the comfort of the patients own home.

Amazing Smiles Orthodontics locations are located in Forest Hills, Brooklyn and Cedarhurst and taking new patients for both Braces and Invisalign. You can visit the site’s consultation request page here, to set an appointment. If you would like to get a free consultation and see if you are a candidate for Braces or Invisalign, please remember that yes we are open, but business as usual is still going to be different while we are still dealing with concerns over the virus.

WHAT AGE TO START TREATMENT FOREST HILLS, NY ORTHODONTIST

Forest Hills Orthodontists help with early orthodontic treatment.

In short, the American Orthodontics Association recommends a child’s first visit to the orthodontist by age 7. With early orthodontic intervention, you’ll have the best chance to give your child his/her best chance for a beautiful, healthy smile— as well as helping to prevent costly procedures in the future.

HERE’S WHY ITS IMPORTANT TO VISIT FOREST HILLS, NY ORTHODONTIST AT AN EARLY AGE:

–> Orthodontists can detect even the subtlest problems with your child’s jaw growth and emerging teeth (even when some baby teeth are still present), and take simple, proactive measures that can prevent more serious problems from developing as your child grows.

–> Even if your child’s teeth appear straight, his/her bite could be off, causing problems that are not readily evident.

–> Specialist’s intervention at a young age can result in a much shorter treatment time and less complicated (and expensive) measures later in life.

–> In certain cases, orthodontic treatment at a young age can achieve results that may not be available when the face and jaw has finished growing. That’s because an orthodontist can help:

  • improve the function and alignment of the bite
  • influence jaw growth
  • reduce the risk of trauma to protruded front teeth
  • correct harmful oral habits

–> The purpose of early “interceptive” treatment is also to help avoid future extractions of permanent teeth as we can better plan for space while the child is growing and all the permanent teeth have not yet come in.

–> Children with “bucked” teeth can often be socially ostracized. In addition, they are more susceptible to trauma if they fall – and if teeth are traumatized treatment is much more difficult to manage.

YOUR CHILD’S FIRST FOREST HILLS, NY ORTHODONTIST VISIT IS FREE

That’s right. You have nothing to lose and a beautiful, healthy smile to gain throughout life by bringing your child (up to age 10) in for his or her free orthodontic check up with our compliments. While I recommend a child’s first orthodontic visit at about age 7, some children require even earlier intervention.

Eckstein and Yusupov Orthodontics is proud to serve children and adults of all ages. Schedule your child’s free initial consultation at the office most convenient for you. We have locations in Mill Basin, Brooklyn; Forest Hills, Queens; and Cedarhurst, Long Island.

You’re never too young or old to have a great smile!

Invisalign: A Preferred Choice For Teens

Invisalign, or “the invisible braces,” have been an increasingly popular option for people of all ages wishing to have straighter teeth and a more confident smile —and it is an especially ideal choice for teenagers.

Invisalign, or “the invisible braces,” have been an increasingly popular option for people of all ages wishing to have straighter teeth and a more confident smile —and it is an especially ideal choice for teenagers. I always enjoy hearing, “Hey, this isn’t that bad!”when I hand the mirror to one of my teen patients after the first treatment. In teen talk, I know that’s a high compliment.

As one of the top Invisalign providers (having attained “elite” and “super elite” status) performing well over 1,500 Invisalign treatments between our three offices in Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island, I can personally tell you that teens love it for the aesthetics (no metal, minimally intrusive), easy hygiene, freedom, and, of course, for photo-opt time—proms, year book photos, graduations, first day of college, memorable moments. In photos, these clear aligners are barely noticeable. The teen aligners are made of a smooth, clear plastic and are so comfortable and nonintrusive, that it’s easy to forget they’re on. Plus, teens can eat whatever they want – popcorn, spare ribs and even corn-on-the-cob— because the aligners are removable. They just have to be mindful to put them back on as soon as they’re finished eating. And, finally, Invisalign Teen provides freedom in sports and music that, often times, a mouthful of metal can’t compete with.

Parents also love Invisalign because you can track your teenager’s compliance via an indicator on the Invisalign tray. And now with our new 100% satisfaction guarantee— which runs through September 2014— you will love Invisalign Teen even more. That’s because if your teen is not satisfied with Invisalign within 6 months of initial treatment, simply return the aligners and we will finish the treatment with traditional wire and bracket braces at no extra charge and no questions asked.

It’s always smart to do your homework, so I encourage you to have your teen take the self-assessment test at Invisalign.com.While it’s not a substitute for a consultation with an orthodontist who specializes in Invisalign, it will indicate whether Invisalign is the right fit for your teen’s needs. Also, be sure to view the teen video testimonials to get firsthand reviews straight from the source.

Please note: Invisalign Teen applies to those ages 11-19.

It’s also worth noting that more and more parents are getting Invisalign treatment along with their teenager. I encourage this for two reasons: it increases motivation between both parties, and it increases compliance. Think of it as a bonding experience, literally and figuratively. When you come in for a consultation ask about parent-teen and teen-sibling rates. I even know of whole families getting Invisalign at the same time.

Bragging Rights

I have brought the most difficult and challenging cases to successful outcomes, so don’t be reluctant to come in if you have severely crooked or spaced teeth. I can help. In fact, the makers of Invisalign chose my practice when awarding the winner of their nationwide contest to free Invisalign treatment. It was an honor and privilege to be chosen.

Why should anyone struggle with a mouthful of metal if he or she doesn’t have to? Bring your teen — or yourself — in for an initial Invisalign consultation at the office most convenient for you. We have locations in Mill Basin, Brooklyn; Forest Hills, Queens; and Cedarhurst, Long Island. But hurry—our Invisalign Teen Guarantee expires on September 30, 2014.

Metal braces, peer pressure, “and getting picked on.”

Invisalign Teen: Boosting Teen Confidence

It’s not always easy for adults to remember, but when you’re a teenager you generally strive to fit in. Sure there’s the Goth punk rocker with six tattoos. There’s the kid with a shaved head, and the dude with dreds down to his waist; But most teens prefer flying below the radar, especially when it comes to anything anyone might find unattractive and even, for some, “humiliating”…. like a mouth full of metal.

Here are some interesting findings based on numerous studies conducted by dental professionals:

  • 84% of teens who have worn metal braces feel they “didn’t fit it” with other kids their age.
  • In fact, 53% said that having to wear metal braces would likely have a negative impact on their self-esteem.

And there’s this— Teens in a large cross section of 3,700 study participants concluded that….

Note that these sentiments were most prevalent among those 14 and under, and that boys more than girls are more likely to feel the negative impact on their self-esteem.

One more statistic: 21% of teens who are or have worn braces, were “picked on” specifically because of it compared to 9% of Invisalign users were picked on for wearing clear aligners.

The clear answer: Invisalign Teen

By using nearly invisible clear “aligners” with no elastic bands or metal brackets, Invisalign and Invisalign Teen gradually straighten teeth over time. Because they are so inconspicuous, most teens feel confident enough to smile wide, interacting socially and post close up selfies without much concern (as they might be if they were wearing metal). It is one of the greatest breakthroughs in orthodontics over the past decade, and is THE increasingly preferred over any other method of teeth straightening.

Also, since the aligners are removable, users have no food restrictions, can take them off during sporting activities, and can even remove them for their prom picture. The only “must” is that the aligners should be immediately put back on so patients can receive the maximum benefit in the quickest period of time.

Is My Child Too Young For Invisalign?

Children and Invisalign. If you are asking yourself “is my child too young for Invisalign,” trust me, you are not alone. Often, I am asked by parents going down the path of a healthier bite and smile for their child, “what’s the best age for Invisalign?” You can learn more about our Invisalign for kids options here.

CHILDREN AND INVISALIGN

Children and Invisalign, If you are asking yourself “is my child too young for Invisalign,” trust me, you are not alone. Often, I am asked by parents going down the path of a healthier bite and smile for their child, “what’s the best age for Invisalign?”

The main thing to consider for Invisalign isn’t necessarily age – it’s to ensure your child is a true candidate. This is why it’s always important to visit an Orthodontist – to evaluate your child’s teeth and ensure Invisalign is in the best interest of your child. At Amazing Smiles, we will always help you decide on what type of braces your child truly needs. We always have our patients’ best interest at heart.

If your child hasn’t lost all his or her baby teeth but some permanent teeth have come in, then Invisalign First is a great option. Invisalign First is a new and improved way for younger patients offering an aligner specifically designed to target expansion, which is the most common treatment for children’s teeth.

INVISALIGN OPTIONS

Is My Child Too Young for Invisalign - Amazing Smiles Orthodontics

Invisalign First gives parents the option of not having to worry if their child is too young for Invisalign. With Invisalign First, Amazing Smiles now has the opportunity to widen the upper arch of your child’s mouth, which is the first point in correction for straightening a smile. Invisalign First is the perfect alternative to the typical palate expanders you see in correcting a child’s smile. It’s safe to say that children, ages six to 11, are great candidates for Invisalign First. If your child is around 12 to 13 years of age, then Invisalign Teen is a great option for treating a variety of orthodontic cases such as crowding teeth, spacing, a crossbite and/or overbite.

Invisalign First typically corrects a child’s malocclusions, manages erupting dentition and guides the dental arch expansion. The benefits with Invisalign over metal braces are also helpful for kids too. For example, you don’t have to worry about broken brackets or metal wires poking your child’s mouth, the treatment is faster which leads to fewer appointments, children can pop them out and put them in before and after eating which eliminated dietary restrictions and you don’t need to worry about a lost aligner, you simply move to the next one.

INVISALIGN PREPARATION

Parents should always keep an eye out on their children’s teeth and come in for early exams. This helps because as children grow, you can keep atop of their smile and ensure braces aren’t put on prematurely. If you are considering Invisalign for your child, then look no further than Amazing Smiles. It’s worth scheduling a complimentary Invisalign consultation so we can review and see if your child’s mouth is ready for Invisalign or what age they would be. We will always put your child’s health and needs first as together we achieve that beautiful smile!

FOREST HILLS, NY ORTHODONTIST PROVIDES INVISALIGN

By Amazing Smiles, serving Queens, Brooklyn and Long Island, with offices in Forest Hills, Mill Basin and Cedarhurst.

Invisalign, also known as “Invisalign braces” or “invisible braces” has fast become the preferred way to straighten teeth and achieve that sought-after, confident smile. It is an alternative to those silver braces we are all familiar with growing up. Invisalign uses clear aligners (also known as retainers) as opposed to brackets, wires and bands. An added benefit of Invisalign is that you can remove the aligners when you need to (when you brush, floss, drink a cup of coffee or enjoy barbecue ribs, for example), however we recommend that they remain on your teeth at least 22 hours each day.

FOREST HILLS, NY ORTHODONTIC OFFICE VISIT INVISALIGN SMILE ASSESSMENT

While Invisalign is a popular and effective treatment with great post-treatment for most people, consider these factors to determine if it is right for you:

  1. Your teeth and your bite: Most people use Invisalign to straighten their teeth if they are crooked, but the truth is that if your teeth are crowding your mouth, or if there is too much space between your teeth, or if you have an overbite or a crossbite, Invisalign may be an option for you as well. Take the Invisalign “smile assessment”to determine how it may help you. For a FREE assessment, you can also visit our office in Forest Hills, Queens; Mill Basin, Brooklyn; or Cedahurst, Long Island.
  2. Your age: Invisalign is effective for people of all ages. No matter how old you are, it is never too late to have straight teeth and a great smile. And now with ‘Invisalign Teen,’ young adults can take advantage of all of the benefits and flexibility of clear, removable aligners— particularly useful when it’s time for the prom and yearbook photos. We advise that children should be at least 12 years of age, however, before their first Invisalign consultation.
  3. Your habits: If you drink coffee, tea and red wine, you can still benefit from Invisalign treatment without worrying about staining. Because the retainers are removable, you can take them out to enjoy your favorite beverage and immediately replace them upon finishing. Likewise, if you grind or clench your teeth and have been diagnosed with TMJ (temporomandibular muscle and joint) syndrome, Invisalign can still be an option for you. In fact, the aligners act like a built-in mouth guard, safeguarding your teeth from damage. Just keep in mind that when you commit to Invisalign you must be diligent about removing and replacing your aligners—and wearing them for no less than 22 hours per day— to get the results you desire. Talk to us about these issues in person so we can properly advise and prepare you.
  4. The Cost: Prices have dropped in recent years, making Invisalign an option for more people. Like traditional braces, most insurance plans will contribute towards the cost. We offer competitive prices—plus 6 free replacement aligners when you qualify for Invisalign Teen Treatment. Should you find a better deal on Invisalign anywhere else in Queens, Brooklyn or Long Island, let us know.
